Bolognaise Sauce & Cheesy bread

Bolognaise

Zoe  inspired me to make some Bolognaise sauce (picture from her, as usual I didn’t have my camera) The sauce turned out deLICIOUS and I served it with some Fettuccine and Cheesy bread! Now, Bolognaise has many variations and a lot of people put tons of veggies in it and sometimes cream/milk (Northern Italy) I stuck with shredded carrots, peppers and WINE haha 😉

Ingredients:

  • 42 oz crushed tomatoes (1-1/2 large cans)
  • 15 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 1.5 cups grated carrot
  • 1 large onion, diced (red or yellow)
  • 2 lbs triple-ground beef
  • 6oz tomato paste
  • 4 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 small long-green peppers
  • 1 & 1/4 cup red wine
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire
  • 3 TBsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp dried parsley
  • 2 TBsp crushed red pepper (to taste)
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 4 large fresh basil leaves
  • TONS of salt-n-pep

Steps:

  1. In a large pot heat olive oil and cook onions till translucent. Throw in carrots when onions are 75% finished, then minced garlic.
  2. Add beef and cook till brown. Then add seasonings.
  3. Add tomato paste and stir in for a few mins. Then add wine and worchestershire. Stir for a few mins till heated through.
  4. Add diced and crushed tomatoes and stir through.
  5. Add chopped fresh basil and bay leaves. Simmer 1-2 hours and serve!

Cheesy Bread –

Ingredients:

  • 1 LB frozen bread dough, thawed
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozz
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Salt

Steps:

  1. Spread out thawed dough on a baking sheet.
  2. Cover with Mozz and Italian seasoning and dash of salt all over.
  3. Roll up dough like a jellyroll and pinch seams together. Place, seam side down, on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake 375 for 40 mins, or till golden brown. Let it sit for 5-10 mins after removing from oven.

Notes:

You can add beaten eggs or butter to the top and/or the inside before you roll.

Also adding some pepperoni or sausage works! 🙂

OH I was too impatient to wait 2 hours for the dough to thaw. Popped it in the microwave for 15 mins on 10% heat. Worked like a charm!
